How do I get my site listed?
You may submit your site manually or you may request that we do it for you.
What information do I need to submit a site.
That depends on how searchable you wish your site to be. The following is a must: A title for your listing, a URL for your listing, and a description for your listing. The following is optional: keywords (please no keyword stuffing), stemming words, and misspelled words.
Does submitting a site guarantee a listing?
No. The goal of this project is to create a comprehensive database of web documents involving, about, for, and pertaining to Owensboro for the purpose of increasing the knowledge of visiting web surfers. But all sites are subject to review and may be rejected without reason.
It depends on how many site are in front of you to be reviewed and it depends on my time available. It may take days or weeks, but I am always trying to stay on top of things. You may request a quick review of your site for a fee (the fee is to help support this project). To check if your site has been listed, simply perform a search. If a month has passed please feel free to submit your site again.
Does requesting that my site be reviewed quickly guarantee that my site will be listed?
No. It must pass review and you should also know all fees are considered donations to this project and are not refundable-donations do not guarantee a place in the search engine.
What is the difference between a listed site and an indexed site?
A listed site has only its homepage (index or default) searchable in our database. And the site's searchable information is condensed to a description and keywords.
An indexed site has all its site content (homepage plus all other web documents on its domain) individually listed. And the site's searchable content consists of all text appearing within the listed document.
Is there an advantage one way or another to manually submitting my site or requesting you do it?
They are advantages and disadvantages to both. If you do it you have to opportunity to add stemming and misspells. Where if I do it I will not. But if I do it, I will crawl your site with a web crawler that will search for your meta tag information; it will collect all text on any given document ;and create a keyword list by giving me a list of all words within your site and list their times of appearance. All of that information I will include in your searchable listing regardless of whether you are requesting just your homepages be listed or your entire site be indexed.
If I have a site that has ever changing content how do I get my current searchable data in to reflect those changes?
How do you accept payment for donations or fees?
All monetary transactions or done through paypal. You do not need a paypal account to make a payment or donation. You may also use a credit or debit card. If you do not have a paypal account but wish to set one up. Click here
What type of technology does DiscoverOwensboro.com use.
Our search engine is run by a javascript algorithm engine that reads a XML document as the database. We have also included a javascript base stemming, spell check, and ranking system within the engine to better function and serve the community. We also have the ability to track what links are clicked and what query's are searched by the use of two separate php scripts.
I am a local web developer and I wish to get involved with DiscoverOwensboro.com.

Regardless of whether you wish to help this project evolve or not, if you are a developer then we have supplied some great links to help increase your knowledge on our credits page and we supply a developers forum for the purpose of assisting in spreading new ideas, thoughts or help for the propose of creating a better Owensboro on the web. You should know there is no reward for assisting this project other than the pride of a job well done and a mention on our credits page.
Is there a limit to the extent of development of DiscoverOwensboro.com can achieve with its current set up?
Well, yes, now that you mention it. We are limited to only 65,535 web document listings in our database (in theory). But I have a resolution in mind when we hit that number.
What lies ahead?
Only the limits of our imagination and resources! We are currently developing an image search and while we have the technology we have not yet had the time to implement it.
